The incident occurred when the driver, operating a Nissan Altima, was traveling slowly eastward on Mason Dixon Road near the Interstate 81 northbound ramp. A fire police officer was directing vehicles following an earlier crash on the interstate. The driver reportedly did not see the officer due to fogged windows, despite his attempts to signal him to stop, police said. The collision happened at 5:09 a.m. on Oct. 30, 2024.
The 64-year-old officer was uninjured and advised that the impact took place at a low speed. The driver pulled over and stayed at the scene, according to state police.
The driver was charged with failing to obey an authorized person directing traffic, as per the state police report.
